The Rise of Scary Terry

"McLaurin makes the catch… and he’s gone.” -Joe Buck, NFL on Fox Sportscaster

I feel like those are words fans are going to get used to hearing for a long time. While it’s only been two weeks, I think it’s reasonably safe to say that “Scary” Terry McLaurin is the next big thing in the NFL.

When it comes to Scary Terry, the proof is in the pudding for the rookie Washington Redskins receiver. His numbers for the first two games of the season are pretty impressive. He’s caught 10 passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns. He’s averaging nearly 20 yards every time he touches the ball. Being that explosive this early in his career definitely bodes well. After barely seeing the field in the preseason and not recording any stats, not many could have expected this.

One person that could have is Jim Nagy, executive director of the Reese’s Senior Bowl. The Senior Bowl is an all-star football game for graduating seniors to showcase their skills. Nagy had this to say about McLaurin when being interviewed by nj.com in April, “He’s just unique, you don’t see guys like that. You don’t see unselfish guys like that at the college level …Terry had a great week in Mobile. He definitely was better than I thought.”

And this is only the beginning. Scary Terry can only hope to get better as his career grows. Waiting in the wings at quarterback for the Washington Redskins is Dwayne Haskins, his former teammate from Ohio State. While they only played in college for one season together, they still had remarkable chemistry. With Haskins throwing the ball to him, McLaurin caught 35 passes for 701 yards and 11 touchdowns. The potential for McLaurin is unreal.

If McLaurin keeps going at this pace, things could get very… scary.
